Below is a description of our partner organization in Uganda.
The Women’s Center for Job Creation (WCFJC, EIN 27-0091427) is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization with headquarters in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and project activities in Uganda, East Africa.
Mission
To increase rural women’s economic empowerment and improve their standard of living.
Vision
An economically vibrant rural countryside where women-led income generating projects create jobs in the community.
Objective
To transform struggling income generating projects into profitable entities which in turn create jobs in their host communities by providing access to:
- Value adding resources – the physical assets necessary to move a project significantly forward e.g. livestock or even machinery. Beneficiaries receive value-adding resources upon agreement to repay WCFJC a minimum of 80% of the resource’s value. Payment arrangements vary case by case. Payments are manageable and provide beneficiaries a stake of ownership, while contributing to project sustainability.
- Markets – WCFJC connects beneficiaries directly to markets, eliminating the middle man and increasing revenues to beneficiaries. This service is free of charge.
- Capacity building/training – Prior to the disbursement of value-adding resources, WCFJC ensures that beneficiaries have proper training in the management of the value-adding resources in question. WCFJC contracts professionals (e.g. veterinary officers) to train a core group of trainers within the target community, who in turn train additional beneficiaries. Training is customized to the needs of each beneficiary group and is provided free of charge.
Current program activities include a goat rearing project, a poultry project, a rural hair salon and a rural school.
